Samenvatting:
In order to assess the performance of turbines with nacelle LiDARs 2 measurement campaigns were
organized on the ECN test site: a 2 beam Wind Iris nacelle LiDAR was installed on a 2.5MW ECN
research turbine and the 5 beam turbine LiDAR demonstrator on the 5MW XEMC Darwind prototype
turbine. Nearby both turbines IEC compliant meteorological masts are located. In case of the ECN
research turbine a WindCube V2 ground based LiDAR is installed nearby the mast as well.
The Wind Iris wind speed compares very well with the mast measurements and in addition the Wind Iris
power curve of the 2.5MW research turbine including uncertainties also compares very well with the obtained reference power curve.
A method is developed and tested to determine yaw misalignment fast and accurate: a -3.6° offset is determined within 7 days. The method is cross checked with ground based LiDAR measurements and
power loss measurements as a result of this yaw misalignment.
It is found that the Wind Iris turbulence intensity compares quite well with the mast. Blockage of the ECN research turbine is assessed and quantified showing an overall wind speed difference of over 4%.
The 5 beam turbine LiDAR demonstrator is introduced and assessed on technical availability, horizontal
wind speed and vertical wind shear. A very high availability of 99,78% is achieved for the considered
period. Besides that, the horizontal wind speed and the wind shear exponent correlate very well with the mast.
