Samenvatting:
Dutch national energy policy aims at a 33% energy saving by the year2020. About 80% of the total energy demand involves the production of heat.
Therefore, thermal energy is the obvious target for energy conservation
research and development. More (waste) heat could be utilised if it would be
available at the right time, at the right temperature, and in the right
place. The adoption of respectively efficient heat storage, transformation
and transport technologies can result into savings of industrial energy
consumption for heat and cold production, in the built environment and in
greenhouses. ECN is developing these technologies which are crucial for a
sustainable society. In addition to the application of traditional
technologies ECN has chosen to focus on phase change materials and on the
thermochemical approach using the reaction enthalpy connected with reversible
chemical reactions
