Samenvatting:
A new type of photovoltaic conversion of light based on dye sensitizednanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been developed by M. Graetzel and co-workers. High efficiencies were reported for this type of photovoltaic conversion. For the correct quantification of efficiencies a standard procedure with certified equipment is prescribed. This includes determination of the spectral response of the solar cell according to the ASTM E1021-84 norm. In this method the cell is continuously irradiated under one sun working conditions. The spectral response is revealed using pulsed monochromatic illumination by means of a chopped light beam. Since this type of solar cell has a slower response to pulsed irradiation than crystalline silicon cells, there is a need to verify if the standard method for spectral response measurement is valid for this type of cells. In the present paper it is shown that this is the case. The influence of electrolyte viscosity on ion transport limitation and on the response time is investigated. Response times are determined for monochromatic irradiation with and without continuous bias illumination. In this paper it will be shown that introduction of ion transport limitation does not affect the time response of the cell. 7 figs., 6 refs.
