Samenvatting:
Chinese housing construction is often compared with the typical blocksof flats also found in the whole of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet
Union: blocks of modular flats of a very poor quality, badly insulated
and the heating system always reading 26C. In China, however, this method
of building has undergone a remarkable change. In the last few years
good quality flats have been constructed in several large cities with
the emphasis on better insulation, use of geothermal energy and energy
conservation. In addition, much attention is given to the immediate
surroundings, for example, the reduction of the environmental impact
is often the criterion used to select building materials. However, there
are many more opportunities to advance sustainability and to reduce
energy consumption. Especially house design - which is still following
uncritically the trend of the past decades - can be improved.
