Samenvatting:
The definitions of concepts like efficiency improvement and energysavings, applied to electricity consumption by households, are discussed.
There is often confusion concerning the meaning of these concepts, due to
incomplete definitions and inaccurate use of these definitions. The factors
determining the electricity consumption by households are discussed in detail
and it is discussed how these factors should be treated when defining
efficiency improvements and energy savings. The importance of clear
definitions of energy services and system boundaries are illustrated. Some of
the definitions proposed are translated into mathematical formulas, making
numerical illustrations possible. 13 refs.
