Samenvatting:
A study has been performed to assess the environmental benefits of fuelcell vehicles for road traffic in the Netherlands. For this an inventory
of the key figures of the Dutch transportation sector and its emissions
has been made. Also a literature study of well-to-wheels studies has
been made. The results of these studies have been compared with respect
to emissions of CO2, NOx and small particulate matter (PM10) for conventional
and fuel cell vehicles. With these results the emissions reduction potential
for the Netherlands has been calculated. As a result of the study it
can be concluded that the emission of CO2 can be reduced with around
45% compared to current emissions. Also, the emission of NOx and PM10
can be lowered considerable with respectively around 70% and 55% compared
to current emissions. However, these lowered emissions can only be reached
if all Dutch road going vehicles with internal combustion engine are
replaced by fuel cell vehicles. Unfortunately, this can not be reached
within the nearby future. Therefore, the environmental benefits of fuel
cell vehicles to Dutch emission objectives can be significant, but will
be on the long term.
