Samenvatting:
Electrochemical techniques have been used to evaluate the performance ofporous La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-_delta electrodes when used in
conjunction with Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 electrolytes at 700C in air. Two
very distinct regimes of behavior have been identified. At low electrode
overpotential a poor performance was observed, and at higher electrode
overpotential a transition to a very significantly higher performance regime
occurred. Variations in electrode microstructure had the most significant
effect on electrode performance in the high performance regime, where the
electrodes with the smallest particles exhibited the lowest resistances.
Impregnation of the oxide electrode with microcrystalline particles of
platinum significantly enhanced the electrode performance. A qualitative
interpretation of the results suggest that the onset of the high performance
regime at high overpotentials is due to enhanced oxygen transport through the
bulk of the electrode. 5 figs., 1 tab., 7 refs.
